Living Courageously is a motivational and inspirational organization founded by LaVern Cameron, who resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia and currently travels to counsel individuals and speak to groups regarding her inspirational journey. She is an enthusiastic mentor and motivating life coach with a generous compassion to empower meaningful living. She is also a federal investigator for the Office of Personnel Management. Prior, she served thirteen years as a police officer at the Pentagon.

In 1997, LaVern was inspired to make a difference in the world as a result of the things she experienced early in life. She is determined to take the challenges she has encountered and turn them into life lessons that she can use to help others. LaVern travels to engage and speak to large and small groups and provides one-on-one counseling for adolescents and adults on both issue advocacy and life choices.

LaVern has devoted much of her life to volunteering to serve others in three specific venues. First, she is the founder of Fighting the AIDS Crisis through Education and Support (theFACESproject), a non-profit agency dedicated to a comprehensive AIDS initiative education with an emphasis on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) prevention through education and empowerment. LaVern began this work after her brother died of complications with AIDS.

Second, she served as a board member and educator with the Rappahannock Teenage Awareness Program (Rapp-TAP). Third, LaVern has been involved with beauty pageantry as a volunteer, sponsor, personal consultant, and interview coach since 1991.

She is the proud mother of three children Brian, a retail consultant with AT&T and a VA Tech alumnus; Nathan, a rising music artist, and producer; and Caressa Cameron Jackson, Miss America 2010. LaVern first book, "Ascent from Obscurity" will be in stores July 1, 2014.

In her spare time, LaVern enjoys traveling with her sisters, interior decorating, and home staging.
